Akkadian Empire

The hood of a nearly floor length material hid the unatural beauty of her features. Her alluring, neon green eyes shrouded by shadow. The pale, marble like complexity of her flawless skin hiding behind the folds of the elaborate black fur that was etched in gold, giving her the appearance of some foreign Queen of the Nile. Draven had, in fact, picked up this unique garment in her travels from Egypt and had only recently arrived within the Kingdom of Sargon. It was customary, as well as polite, when entering new land to introduce yourself to its King.

"You dare enter these halls unannounced?"

Despite being born in another part of the world, Draven was rather fluent in many languages, and understood this dialect rather well. "I am in these halls to announce that I have entered King Sargon's lands." Her voice was soft, almost barely above a whisper.

"A woman. You come here unescorted as well."

Foolish Humans. Smiling beneath the darkness that the hood of her cloak provided, Draven merely inclinded her head slightly. "I am a woman of many skills, sir, and do not require an escort. Now if you do not step aside and allow me to introduce myself to your King, then we will be standing here, wasting time when you should be out scowering for the enemy, no?"

Always the crafty one with her words. Slightly confused by her envasiveness of giving her intentions away, the guards reguarded on another with a confused expression. They wore the customary tunics of their people, a high ranking noble. Reaching up with a pale hand that was tipped with sharp claw like nails, Draven pulled back the hood. Her long, waist length black hair tumbled down her shoulders, shimmering like silk beneath the light of the moon. The guards stood with their mouths gaping nearly to the sandy ground beneath their bare feet. Never had they seen such a pale and flawless ethreal beauty.

"I suggest you take me to your King." This time, Draven's voice held just a bit of Complusion behind it.

From humble beginnings he had arisen, through skillfulness in battle and a sharp wit, the tiny village in a valley known as Akkad, had been led by one of the chieftains sons, Sargon, who rampaged neighboring villages and conquered their lands… The first man to establish an actual kingdom, Sargon named his new holdings, Akkad, after the valley in which he originated from.

Their king, no… their Emperor, Sargon sat alone in the vast hall of his recently finished fortress palace in the heart of Akkad. This was a sacred place… On the ground where his vast palace sprawled had once been the very site of his birth place, a village known as Eden. Here, he was God… or rather, a God. It was said, whisperings in the city and all over the Empire that Sargon had been blessed (if not born) by the goddess of war and love, Ishtar. Blessed… perhaps, cunning is more like it.

It was here, just alone the small cluster of rock cliff’s near the main city that Sargon, as a child had been held by his father and told that he would one day rule the entire valley as the chief of their clan… But all was not to be as grand as Sargon had been lead to believe… For their was another, another son of the village chief who would gain favor as a smart child, and later in life, a wise young man. That person was Lagash, Sargon’s twin bother… It was also on that fateful day that their father would announce they would rule together… Lagash during times of peace, for he was kind and caring, his mind sharp and realistic… Sargon would then rule over their tribe during times of war and conflict, for his aspirations were greater then any, and his thirst for battle would surely protect the village well…

But that is not the way it was to be… Sargon plunged their tribe into what seemed like eternal war, taking over other villages and building walls…. And now, he sat as the first Emperor over a vast empire that stretched from the Mediterranean Sea to what is now the Western portion of China.

But even their god-like Emperor was only a man… a man who was currently facing his own mortality. Yes, he was the greatest warrior, the smartest strategist… but he could feel age creeping up on him from the shadows. It would have not been so bad, if he had an heir… All he wanted was for his hard work, his Empire, to go to the hands of his own blood, a son. But…so far no wife that he took could produce a son… With that, Sargon couldn’t have a slew of daughters and useless wives running around… he had them all put to death the moment the new born child was discovered to be a female.

The sound of the huge solid wood doors interrupted his thoughts. Looking up, his green eyes caught sight of one of his palace guards, a currier to be exact. He motioned for the man to speak.

“My lord, Rightful King of all Lands, Sargon. I introduce to you a traveler, a woman from a far away land whom wishes to greet the Emperor of this great nation…”

The man quickly retreated, leaving the opening in the door way for the traveler to enter through. Hearing this news, Sargon sat up, his hands resting on the twins heads of the stone lions that flanked his massive throne that sat roughly 5 steps above the main floor of the anti-chamber. His golden hair was bound in a simple tie, draping over his shoulder and pooling in his lap. Around his head was a black circlet, made from obsidian, the front tolled and sporting a very rare Blood Diamond that glittered like a tear drop. His clothing was a sleeveless tunic, embroidered and stitched meticulously. It was all in soft browns and subtle gold colors. On his feet were leather sandals (think Greek), that laced up his powerfully built, yet lean legs and tied just below his knees. A pair of wrist cuffs and some other jewelry, along with a wide sash completed his outfit of this day.

“Enter, traveler, and advance upon the throne of the Emperor of Akkad.” Sargon called out toward the darkness of the entrance way at the other end of his massive hall.

The darkness danced around her as if it were alive. The torch light provided with enough shadow to use them to her advantage. Keeping most of her features hidden with its inky blackness. As she advanced forward, the furred cloak billowed out behind her, trailing across the stone floor. Stopping a respectable distance away, she kept her head bowed, her eyes and face hidden from view of prying eyes.

"My Lord Sargon. It is a great pleasure to stand within such a distance of the greatest warrior." Her voice floated like music between them, alluring and powerful within its own right. "I have been traveling for many days and nights and am in need of shelter for the coming dawn."

When she finished speaking, that was when Draven stood, tilting her head up. The darkness parted as if unseen hands had pulled it aside. Her neon green eyes glowed in the torch light and her skin seemed even more flawless, begging to be touched, tasted, even savored. Her presence, her aura was alluring, captivating without even the smallest intent of it being so.

His interest was sparked the moment the woman had entered into the dimly lit anti-chamber. Most certainly, anyone entering into his vast empire knew of the horrific rumors of their Emperor, his cruelty seemed to over shadow his great deeds toward the advancement of all humanity.

When the woman’s voice cut through the silence of the darkness that surrounded them, it caused the hairs on his arms and back of his neck to stand on end, his flesh to tingle with excitement and his eyes to zero in on the shrouded figure that stood below him, on the floor of the great chamber below his throne.

The moment the darkness seemed to slide away from the traveler, the great Sargon sucked in his breath quickly, quietly, and was fast to recover from his shock at the beauty of the woman who had entered his kingdom. His thoughts drifted to wondering why such a voluptuous creature would wander around without a man to guard such a precious jewel.

He spoke, answering the woman’s request for shelter. “You have made a wise decision, seeking me within the halls of my palace, Eden. I will see that you have every comfort while you stay here…”

The tall blonde man shifted in his throne, arching his neck forward and resting his arms on his knees as he peered down at the lone traveler with a sparkling light in his green eyes. “Tell me, woman… By what name may I call upon you as… and of what land do you hail from?”

When he granted her sanctuary that she had requested, she inclined her head in gratitude. "You are most generous, my lord." With a pale hand that was tipped with sharp, claw like nails that seemed to be made from glass, she pulled down the hood of her cloak. Silky black hair tumbled down to her lower back in a perfectly straight and wild mass. The full beauty of her face revealed in the vast lighting of the hall that seemed to grow brighter with her mere presence.

"My name is Draven, my lord." She replied to his first question. "I hail from distant lands in the east. Lands that are no longer inhabitable." A war had broken out, but not from the Akkadian Empire.

Her beauty has taken him off guard before, the very sight of her face, long hair unbound and cascading like a dark waterfall, sent chills up his spine… but he was wise to hide his interest and reaction. After all, he had an image to maintain… and he was wise to first discover all he could about this newcomer before he took his next… course of action.

Had it been any other time, the Emperor of Akkad, Sargon, would have immediately offered to take this woman as his wife and queen. Alas, his current queen was locked within her chambers, supposedly giving birth. But that had been shady business from the get-go. Sargon suspected foul play on the Queen’s part and had some crafty guards stationed around to see if his suspicions were correct.

“I see…” Sargon replied to Draven, as the woman had named herself. A small smile crept over the Emperor’s lips, a mere shadow of the tantalizing smile that would come to worn by the vampire Kain in years to come.

The tall blonde stood up in one fluid motion, a tell-tale sign of his warrior’s physique and battle honed body. Taking the five steps to the floor of his anti-chamber, the warrior king stood closely to the traveler Draven, his height uncommon amongst the people of this time made the woman seem that much dainty, that much more alluring in her femininity.

“Come…” The tall man commanded. “I shall personally see you to a suitable chamber and see that all the servants and slaves of my Eden treat you as they would a Queen.”

He was quick to tread toward the massive doors and open them himself, the guards taken aback by the emergence of their King and quickly bowed with haste and proudly exclaimed their loyalty and love to their powerful ruler…

Sargon then lead the beautiful Draven to a chamber that had some been kept for his mother, and was the most fantastical room in the whole palace of Akkad.

As much as the man tried to hide his interest and reaction, Draven had two thousand years experience of reading expressions and the glimmer in someone's eyes, and she had glimpsed Sargon's quiet easily. Hiding her amusement, she gave the King one of her own charming and alluring smiles, one that had been known to make the strongest of men fall to their knees.

"That is certainly uneccessary, my lord." But, she said nothing further on the matter, merely followed him out of the great hall, her footfalls silent and inaudible. She watched his servants and his guards bow as he passed by. Draven could tell by the looks in their eyes that this man ruled with a heavy hand.
